BLUES RESERVES 4 VILLA RESERVES 1

Blues Reserves ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against their Villa counterparts in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Wast Hills earlier today.

In what a was a competitive and entertaining encounter Blues' goals were spread amongst the team, with Garry O'Connor, Marcus Bent, A Triallist and Quincy all on the score sheet.

The early exchanges were fairly even, but it was Villa who had the first chance when they saw a headed effort cleared off the line.

On ten minutes, Marcus Bent was unlucky to see his shot hit the underside of the bar before being cleared away.

The opening goal arrived after 23 minutes, when Quincy made a surging run down the left from inside his own half before releasing O'Connor just inside the Villa box.

The Scottish international jinked past his marker before lashing the ball across the front of the Villa keeper and into the far corner of the net.

But Villa were back in the game less than ten minutes later with a well taken volleyed effort inside the Blues area.

Then with just seconds to go before the half time break, Blues edged in front again when Marcus Bent headed home with a neat finish.

Blues had put decent first half performance against a young Villa side, but in the second period of the game they raised their play a couple of notches and generally dominated for the full 45 minutes.

Crisp passing and good movement off the ball saw Terry Westley's side fashion a number of good openings.

But it took until the 81st minute to make their dominance pay when Quincy cut the ball back for A Triallist to blast the ball home.

With less than five minutes of the game remaining Quincy finished the visitors off with what was the goal of the game.

He collected the ball by the centre spot before running on 50 yards and avoiding a number of last ditch Villa tackles, before shooting home from the edge of the area.

The match also saw Colin Doyle play his first 90 minutes of football since recovering from his recent cartilage operation.

Full time: Blues Reserves 4 Villa Reserves 1

Blues: Colin Doyle, Franck Queudrue, Jacob Rowe, Radhi Jaidi, Jared Wilson, Quincy, Nigel Quashie, Mehdi Nafti, A Triallist, Marcus Bent, Garry O'Connor.

good result

I wonder who played for the villa, considering they had 3 matches in 7 days or what ever it was?

Quincy sounds like he had a good game, a goal and a few assists

Get him in for McSheffrey next game on the left, Larsson back to the right and lets have a bit more balance and shape to the team

When I first read it I thought that A.Trialist must've been Quashie, then noticed his name further down. I wonder who this guy is.

Doubt it, as far as I know McLeish still hasn't spoke to him. I'd also expect him to come straight in on loan and not be a trialist.

By the look of the line up he would probably be a right winger!

Looks that way, if hes decent him and Quashie coming in would be welcome needed additions to the team, good to see O'Connor and Bent scoring, Quincy sounded like he had a blast of a game, hopefully Mcleish will get him in the squad this weekend

But why put the name 'A Traialist' in there like that.....it is so 'Amateurish '

If it's because he is not a contracted player at the club then why name Quashie in the line up ??? He is not either

Cannot see the point of using this term 'Trialist' all of the time

I used to be Jacob Rowe's coach at Senior School.

I'm pleased to see him doing well for himself. He used to play in the Centre of Midfield for me. He was good there aswell.

Its because Mcliesh doesn't like to raise speculation about who hes interested in getting or close to getting, however the media already know about our links with Quashie, so thats why its fine to have his name in the line up. I expect soon we will find out who it is... someone will spill the beans

Well it ain't Miniero

He was supposedly on trial with us or so I was told but looks like Chelsea are signing him as cover for Essien

Must have been a bit decent if both Arsenal and Chelsea were chasing him

Ah well....'another one bites the dust' as Freddie would have said
